Your Eye Exam
ROUTINE EYE EXAMS:
Dr. Herrington offers comprehensive eye care, addressing various ocular conditions such as eye infections, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinal examinations. Beyond vision correction, our medical eye evaluations can detect not only eye diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, and retinal disease but also underlying general health issues such as diabetes, elevated blood pressure, or high cholesterol.

Visual Field Screening and Color Test

Visual field screening is used to detect glaucoma, an ocular condition that can gradually diminish a patient's peripheral vision without their immediate awareness. Changes in a patient's visual field can also indicate retinal issues, strokes, or brain tumors. We use a state-of-the-art wearable virtual reality headset to offer the most advanced visual field screening and color tests possible.
Color vision testing identifies patients who have congenital color vision deficiencies. In children, it's important for teachers and parents to be aware of these issues, as much learning is color-coded. For teenagers, normal color vision is a requirement for certain occupations, which may influence their career planning. Additionally, some ocular conditions can lead to acquired color vision problems.
Retinal Imaging

Obtaining a retinal screening photo provides the doctor with baseline information, allowing for the comparison of changes over time. Some retinal issues are also more apparent with a wider-angle view
of the retina. This screening can also help detect vascular changes associated with diabetes or hypertension. For early glaucoma detection, a side-by-side comparison of the optic discs is crucial.
A dilated eye examination is a vital part of your routine care, as your annual visit encompasses much more than just measuring your eyes for glasses or contact lenses.
DIABETIC EYE EXAMS:
Annual retinal examinations are important for every diabetic patient. To detect early changes, we create a composite image of your retinal blood vessels. As a part of your healthcare team, we share this information with your diabetic clinician to help them better manage your care.
